video above for the answer. I came across this hilariously narrated mini doc from
1983 courtesy of a tweet by Louder Than War. I found it quite interesting because I feel documentaries like these are the method by which many stereotypes (good or bad)
become associated with fans and musicians from specific genres of music. It’s akin to
the development of a brand. There’s a certain persona, attitude and system of graphics that work together to produce a distinct identity. I think I was most intrigued by the
punks who clearly take advantage of their recognizable “brand” and manage shake
down tourists for a couple of quid.
